A RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
BAKERSFIELD OPPOSING THE'APPLICATION OF THE
CALIFORNIA WATER SERVICE COMPANY FOR A RATE
INCREASE OF 3.5% TO OFFSET-AN INCREASE IN
INCOME TAXES.
WHEREAS, the California Water Service Company filed
application before the Public Utilities Commission of the State of
California on July 18, 1968 for a rate'increase of 3.5% to offset
an increase in income taxes incurred by said company and that
application has been given Docket No'. 50403 by said Commission, and
WHEREAS, the purpose of income tax increases and surcharges
was not only to raise money for the appropriate governmental entities
but was to provide a restraint on economic activity as well, and
WHEREAS, most corporations and citizens must pay
additional income tax surcharges and increases without enjoying a
corresponding increase in income.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE .ITRESOLVED by the Council of the
City of Bakersfield as follows:
1. That the City Council of the City_o~ Bakersfield is '
opposed to any increase in the rates of the California Water
Service'Company based on a desire of that company to offset'any
increase or surcharge in income taxes.
2.1 BE IT FlIRTHER RESOLVED that the City Council of the
City of Bakers field directs that a copy of this resolution be sent
by its Clerk to the Public Utilities 'Commission and to the
California Water.Service Company.
I HEREBY CERTIFY that the fqregoing Resolution was
passed'and adopted by the Council of the City of Bakersfield at a
regular meeting thereof held on the·19th day of August, 1968, by
the following vote:
