A RESOLU%ION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
BAKERSFIELD URGING THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF
THE CALIFORNIA STATE COLLEGES TO NAME THE
NEW STATE COLLEGE LOCATED AT BAKERSFIELD
"CALIFORNIA STATE COLLEGE--BAKERSFIELD".
WHEREAS, the new state college approved by the State
Legislature is located in close proximity to the City of Bakersfield,
and
WHEREAS, said college will be serviced by the City
of Bakersfield with roads, sewers, shopping centers, transportation
facilities and generally all urban services, and
WHEREAS, it is contemplated that in the near future the
site of the college will be annexed to the City of Bakersfield,
and
WHEREAS, the City of Bakersfield and the urban area
surrounding Bakersfield contains over 50% of the pgpulation of the
entire County of Kern, and
WHEREAS, the bulk of the student body attending said
college will emanate from the urban Bakersfield area, and
WHEREAS, the people of Bakersfield share a natural pride
in their community and are desirous of having the institution of
higher learning identified with the community, and
WHEREAS, a name which identifies the college with the
county would be meaningless as describing the location of the
college within the county,.and
WHEREAS, identity of the college with the City of
Bakersfield is more meaningful to the state and the nation in
-recognition of ~be location of saidcoilege~ '-
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the
City of Bakersfield as follows:
1. That the new state college be given the name
"California State College--Bakersfield" in preference to all other
names.
2. That the Board of Trustees of the California State
Colleges be respectfully urged to adopt the foregoing name for the
new college.

I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing Resolution was
passed and adopted by the Council of the City of Bakersfield at a
regular meeting thereof held on the 1st day of July, 1968, by the
following vote:
