A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF BAKERSFIELD OPPOSXNG
THE WITHDRAWAL OF A PORTXON OF EAST KERN COUNTY
FROM THE TERrITORY UNDER THE JURISDXCTION OF THE
KERN COUNTY WATER AGENCY.
W}IEREAS~ the Kern County Water Agency was created as a
county-wide water agency for the purpose of supplying the county
with supplemental water~ flood control and drainage matters, and
WHEREASs the Assembly Water Committee of the State
Legislature has sent out AB 1169 which would allow a portion of
East Ke~n County to get out of the Agency~ and
%fl-XERR/$~ the County of Kern needs a flood control agency
for the entire county~ and.
WHERF~A~S~ East Kern., County is just as much a part of the
County as any other part~ and
WHEREAS, there is no more justification for East Kern
County to be removed from the Kern County Water Agency than various
ether parts of ~he County~ and
WHE~8~ if the Kern County Water Agency is fragmented
by such proposed withdrawals~ the water program for Kern County
might very well fail.
N~ TMEREFORE~ BE XT RESOLVED by the City of Bakersfield
as follows:
1. The City is opposed ~o the withdrawal of any area of
~<ern Co~ty from the Kern County Water Agency~
2o The City of Bakersfield solidly supports the Kern
County Water Agency in its opposition to such withdrawals°
3o That copies of this ~esolution be forwarded to our
~Ieg~$1atO~s with the reques~ that they ~do everything in their'
pe~er to prevent the fragmentation of the Kern Cotu~ty Water Agency
by the proposed withdrawal of a portion of East Kern County set
forth in Assembly Bill Nee 1169~
