HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES NO 36-68County of Kern Resolo No. 68-263 City of Bakersfield Resol.'~oo 36~6~ A JOINT RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF B~ERSFIELD AND THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF THE COUNTY OF KERN PROCLAIMING MAY 1, 1968 AS "L~ DAY USA" IN THE CITY OF BAKERSFIELD ~D THE COUNTY OF KERN° WHEREAS,-as Americans.we cherish individual freedom as a birth- right, and every citizen of this community depends upon law and courts to protect his rights, to safeguard his person andproperty, and to enable him to enjoy the privileges of.life in a free society; and WHEREAS, w£thout laws predicated upon equal justice, and indepen- dent courts to administer them, the liberties we take for granted would be meaningless; and WHEREAS, our legal and judicial systems are foundation stones upon which rest our representative government, our economic well-being, and our whole social order; and WHEREAS, the Congress of the United States., and the President by official proclamation, have set aside May 1 as a special day for recognizing the place of law in American life; and WHEP~AS, observance of the special day known as Law Day USA will take the form of programs sponsored by various organizations, in the'schools, and in appropriate public ceremonies in order to foster- increased respect for law and a broader awareness of the benefits and also the responsibilities of citizenship; NOW~ THEREEFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Bakersfield and the Board of Supervisors of the County of Kern'that May 1~ 1968 be proclaimed as Law Day USA in the City.of Bakersfield and the County of Kern, and that citizens, organizations and sChools give appropriate recognition to this special day. -1- I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing Resolution was passed and adopted by the Council of the City of Bakersfield at a regular meeting thereof held on the 22nd day of April, 1968, by the following vote: AYES: Councilmen Hosking, Rees, Stiern, Vetter, Whittemore NOES: None ABSENT:· Councilmen Heisey & Rucker ex-O~iclo Clerk of ^ ~'-'~- ~ the Council of the City of Bakersfield .rAP~R0 D. .Qf Ap~l< I ~BY CERTIFY that the foregoing Resolution was passed and adopted by the Board of Supervisors of the County of Kern at a regular meeting thereof held on the 23rd day of April, 1968, by the following vote: AYES: Supervisors: NOES: None Jackson, Holt, Fairbairn, Webb, Salzer ABSENT: None Vera K.
