A RESOLUTION OF THE COUNqIL OF THE CITY OF
BAKERSFIELD ENDORSING HOSTING OF THE 1976
SUMMER OLYMPICS IN THE GREATER LOS ANGELES
METROPOLITAN AREA OR ANY ]AREA IN THE STATE
OF CALIFORNIA.
WHEREAS, all of Southern Cali~fornia is .desirous of hosting
the 1976 Summer Olympics in the Greater~ Los Angeles metropolitan
area with all the gracious hospitality of which Californians are
known for the world over; and
WHEREAS, this area is known far and wide for its ideal
climate; and

WHEREAS, this area is recognjzed as the p rts Capital
of the World" and offers the finest atk. letic facilities of any

community in these United States or a . a
r ; and
WHEREAS, the business communi~ty has the reputation of
supporting athletic endeavors and proje~cts of the fine arts in a
most generous and positive way; and ~
WHEREAS, in May of 1968 the United States Olympic Committee
will choose from five cities the AmeriCan site entry in the world-
wide competition for selection of the 1~976 site for the Summer
Games; and
WHEREAS, the International Ol~ympic Committee is expected
to select the 1976 Summer Olympic Games, site within the forthcoming
year; and
WHEREAS, all governmental and business facets of our
society will wholeheartedly support an~ promote this prestigious
worldwide event in every proper and poiitive way:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of
the City of Bakersfield in California invites the amateur. athletes
of the world to come to the sunny clime~s of Southern California, or
any other area in the State of Callf r 1 in 1976 for the XXI

I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing Resolution was
passed and adopted by the Council of the City of Bakersfield at a
regular meeting thereof held on the 15th day of April, 1968, by
the following vote:
