ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTIONS 10.24.010 AND
10.24.020 OF THE BAKERSFIELD MUNICIPAL CODE
RELATING TO SPEED ZONES.
BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Bakersfield as follows:
SECTION 1.
Section 10.24.010 of the Bakersfield Municipal Code is hereby amended to read
as follows:
10.24.010 Establishment of increased zones.
The council may, by resolution, establish increased speed zones when, on the
basis of an engineering and traffic surrey, it determines that speed of thirty, thirty-five,
forty, forty-five, fifty, fifty-five, sixty or sixty-five miles per hour facilitates the orderly
movement of vehicular traffic and would be reasonable and safe upon a street or
highway otherwise subject to a prima facie speed limit of twenty-five miles per hour
applicable under the California Vehicle Code.
SECTION 2.
Section 10.24.020 of the Bakersfield Municipal Code is hereby amended to read
as follows:
10.24.020 Establishment of limited zones.
The council may, by resolution, establish limited speed zones when, on the basis
of an engineering and traffic survey, it determines that a speed limit of sixty-five or fifty-
five miles per hour is more than is reasonable or safe on any part of a street or highway
when such speed limit is sixty-five or fifty-five miles per hour under the California
Vehicle Code and further determines that a speed of sixty, fifty-five, fifty, forty-five, forty,
thirty-five, thirty or twenty-five miles per hour is more appropriate to facilitate the orderly
movement of vehicular traffic.
