A RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF BAKERSFIELD REQUESTING THE BOARD OF
SUPERVISORS OF THE COUNTY OF KERN TO
ORDER THE CONSOLIDATION OF THE NOMINATING
MUNICIPAL ELECTION FOR THE OFFICE OF MAYOR
OF THE CITY OF BAKERSFIELD WITH THE STATE
OF CALIFORNIA DIRECT PRIMARY ELECTION TO BE
HELD ON TUESDAY, JUNE 5, 1984.
WHEREAS, the Council of the City of Bakersfield, by
Resolution No. 3-84 , has called the Nominating Municipal Election
for the office of Mayor for the full term of four (4) years, said
election to be held on Tuesday, the 5th day of June, 1984; and
WHEREAS, the Council of the City of Bakersfield desires
to consolidate the said Nominating Municipal Election for the
office of Mayor with the State of California Direct Primary Election
to be held on Tuesday, June 5, 1984.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City
of Bakersfield as follows:
1. That the Board of Supervisors of the County of Kern
is hereby requested to make an order, pursuant to Sections 23300
et. seq. of the Elections Code of the State of California, consolidating
the Nominating Municipal Election for the office of Mayor of the
City of Bakersfield with the State of California Direct Primary
Election to be held on June 5, 1984.
2. That the names of the candidates to appear upon the
ballot shall be filed with the County Clerk of the County of Kern
no later than 81 days prior to the election and it is requested
that the names of the candidates for the office of Mayor be set
forth in each ballot to be used at said Direct Primary Election
insofar as the same is held within the City of Bakersfield, the
territory affected by said order of consolidation.
3. That the consolidated election shall be held and
conducted, election officers appointed, voting precincts designated,
candidates nominated, ballots printed, polls opened and closed,
ballots counted and returned, returns canvassed, results declared,
certificates of election issued, and all other proceedings incidental
to and connected with the election shall be regulated and done, in
accordance with the provisions of law regulating the statewide
election and the Nominating Municipal Election.
4. That, therefore, the County Clerk is requested to
conduct the election and is requested to provide within the City
of Bakersfield, the election precincts, polling places and voting
booths, which shall, in every case, be the same and there shall be
only one set of election officers in each of the precincts for the
Nominating Municipal Election and the Direct Primary Election to be
held on the same day and that the office of Mayor and the candidates
therefor be set forth in each ballot to be used at said Direct
Primary Election insofar as the same is held in the City of Bakersfield,
the territory affected by said order of consolidation.
5. That said Board is further requested to cause to
be set forth the candidates, as later provided, on all sample ballots
relating to said City election, and to mail to the qualified electors
within the City said sample ballots and voters pamphlets, all in
the time and in the form required by law, and to provide absent
voter ballots for said election for use by electors of the City of
Bakersfield who may be entitled thereto in the manner provided by

6. That the Board of
is hereby authorized to canvass,
Supervisors of the County of Kern
or cause to be canvassed, the
returns of said Nominating Municipal Election for the office of Mayor
with respect to the votes cast in the City of Bakersfield, and to
certify such canvass of the votes so cast to this Council.
7. That the City Clerk is hereby directed to transmit and
file certified copies of this Resolution to and with the Board of
Supervisors and County Clerk of the County of Kern.

regular meeting thereof held on the 18th day of January, 1984, by
