A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF BAKERSFIELD SUPPORTING THE SALE
OF PG8~E'S KERN POWER PLANT PROPERTY TO
WORLD OIL CORP.
WHEREAS, Pacific Gas and Electric intends to sell the Kern Power Plant
located on Rosedale Highway; and
WHEREAS, the City in the past has been opposed to the possible reopening of
the Kern Power Plant due to residential and commercial development and
urbanization that has occurred near and around the site; and
WHEREAS, the City is very concerned about the potential traffic, air pollution,
and other environmental impacts which could result from any reopening of the
Kern Power Plant; and
WHEREAS, the Kern Power Plant is no longer operational and all operating
permits have expired; and
WHEREAS, Pacific Gas and Electric, through the sale of 120 acres of the Kern
Power Plant property to World Oil, looks forward to seeing this power plant site
redeveloped in a way that benefits the community and can become a community
asset; and
WHEREAS, World Oil will be responsible for dismantling the plant and
performing any environmental clean-ups that may be required as part of eventual
development of the site; and
WHEREAS, the sale of the property is of vital interest to the city of Bakersfield.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Bakersfield as
follows:
1. The above recitals are true and correct and incorporated herein by
reference.
2. The Council of the City of Bakersfield supports the sale of the Kern
Power Plant by Pacific Gas and Electric to World Oil Corp., so the site can be
transformed into a more valuable community asset.
3. The City Council urges the CPUC to grant the necessary regulatory
approvals as promptly as possible to allow completion of the sale process in a
timely manner.
