A RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
BAKERSFIELD DECLARING THE RESULTS OF CANVASS
OF RETURNS IN THE SPECIAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION
FOR THE OFFICE OF MAYOR HELD ON THE 5TH DAY
OF JUNE, 1984.
BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Bakersfield
as follows:
1. That the City Council does hereby find, determine,
and declare as follows:
a. That pursuant to applicable law, a Special
Municipal Election was held and conducted in said City on the 5th
day of June, 1984, for the purpose of electing a Mayor; and
b. That said election was held and conducted in
conformity with all applicable provisions of law; and
c. That pursuant to direction of the City Council,
the County Clerk of the County of Kern has heretofore conducted a
canvass of the results thereof and has filed with said City
Council a certificate relating thereto, a copy of which is attached
hereto, which certificate has been examined and is hereby accepted
by this City Council; and
d. That the City Council does hereby accept the
canvass of record of said election as certified by said County
Clerk and does hereby resolve, determine, and declare the results
for Mayor as follows:

Tom Payne 18,113
e. That Tom Payne is hereby declared to be elected
to the office of Mayor for the City of Bakersfield for the full
term of four years, commencing January 1, 1985.

2. That the City Clerk shall certify the adoption of

I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing Resolution was
passed and adopted by the Council of the City of Bakersfield at a
regular meeting thereof held on the 18th day of July, 1984, by
the following vote:

I, GALE S. ENSTAD, County Clerk-Recorder, County of Kern State of
California, HEREBY CERTIFY that I have canvassed the returns of the
election held June 5, 1984, in the City of Bakersfield Special Election
for the office of Mayor, and that the total number of ballots cast in
said district and in each of the respective precincts therein, are
shown on the statement attached hereto.
I FURTHER CERTIFY that Nancy Bailey received Six Thousand Seven
Hundred Two (6,702) votes and Tom Payne received Eighteen Thousand One
Hundred Thirteen (18~113) votes, wherefore I do HEREBY CERTIFY that the
totals as shown for this election are full, true and correct.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF I do hereby set my hand and the official seal
of the County of Kern this 2nd day of July, 1984.
