CITY MANAGER'S OFFICE
MEMORANDUM
July 6, 2007
TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council'
FROM: Alan Tandy, City Manager t.
SUBJECT: General information
1. A major positive took place in regard to the TRIP program this week! CalTrans has been
granted NEPA delegated authority by the Federal Highway Administration. What that means is
that the approval of environmental documents can now be done by CalTrans. You may
remember that the longest delay on the Westside Parkway — literally many years — was at
FHWA. This is very good news for future processing times!
2. Attached is a preliminary report on the results of the Fireworks Enforcement Teams.
3. Congratulations to the Public Works Department who obtained a grant of $150,000 from the
California Integrated Waste Management Board for rubberized asphalt with which to pave
streets!
4. This week the Planning Commission approved the General Plan Amendment and Zone Change
for the Sports Village — it is on its way to City Council.
5. The Californian Foundation has donated $10,000 for a Community Garden at MLK park.
6. There are two major bid openings scheduled for next week — Tuesday on the Wastewater Plant
and Thursday on the Fairfax interchange.
7. Earth Wind and tFire will perform live in concert at the Bright House Networks Amphitheater this
Saturday, July 7 at 7pm.
8. Jastro Pool is opening to the public for Recreational Swim and Swim Lessons beginning
Monday, July 9th. In celebration of July being Recreation & Parks month, and Jastro Pool
opening, there will be FREE Recreational Swim offered at all City Pools on July 161H
9. 1 will be on vacation the week of July 16th to the 20th. John Stinson will fill in for me that week
and at the Council meeting on the 18tH. It appears, as of now, that the agenda will be pretty
light.
10. The Special Enforcement Gang Violence Report and the Graffiti Statistics Report for June are
enclosed.
11. The Streets Division work schedule for the week of July 9th is enclosed.
