A RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
BAKERSFIELD CHANGING THE NAME OF CALIFORNIA
AVENUE PARK TO DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR.,
PARK AND CALIFORNIA AVENUE PARK FACILITY
TO DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR., COMMUNITY
CENTER.
WHEREAS, the late Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., has been
recognized for his courageous and effective leadership in the
field of human relations; and
WHEREAS, his dream of mankind living in harmony and
free of racial prejudice is a dream shared by all persons of good
conscious; and
WHEREAS,
Park Facility are
California Avenue Park and California Avenue
located in an area that can promote the inter-
action and said exchange of groups of people of all races.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that California Avenue
Park is hereby named Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Park and
California Avenue Park Facility is hereby named Dr. Martin Luther
King, Jr., Community Center and that the seven major rooms
inside of the facility located at the park be named in honor of
individuals recommended by the California Avenue Park advisory
committee subject to the approval of the Director of Recreation
of the City of Bakersfield.

I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing Resolution was
passed and adopted by the Council of the City of Bakersfield at a
regular meeting thereof held on the 16th day of November , 1983,
by the following vote:
