RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
BAKERSFIELD DECLARING THE RESULTS OF CANVASS
OF RETURNS OF THE GENERAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION
FOR THE OFFICE OF COUNCILMAN IN THE SECOND,
FIFTH AND SIXTH WARDS, SPECIAL MUNICIPAL
ELECTION FOR THE UNEXPIRED TERM OF COUNCILMAN
IN THE FIRST WARD AND SPECIAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION
FOR CITY MEASURES A AND B, HELD ON THE 8TH DAY
OF NOVEMBER, 1983.
BE iT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Bakersfield
as follows:
SECTION 1.
That the City Council does hereby find, determine, and
declare as follows:
a. That pursuant to applicable law, a General Municipal
Election was held in the City of Bakersfield on the 8th day of
November, 1983, for the purpose of electing a Councilman in the
Second, Fifth and Sixth Wards, and a Special Municipal Election
was held in the First Ward for electing a Councilman for the
remainder of the term in the First Ward.
b. That said election was held and conducted in con-
formity with all applicable provisions of law; and
c. That pursuant to direction of the City Council, the
County Clerk of the County of Kern has heretofore conducted a
canvass of the results thereof and has filed with said City
Council a certificate relating thereto which has been examined
and is hereby accepted by this City Council; and
d. That the City Council does hereby accept the canvass
of record of said elections as certified by said County Clerk and
does hereby resolve, determine, and declare the results of said
General and Special Municipal Election as follows:

following persons to be elected to the office of City Councilman
for a
full term of four years, as follows:

following person to be elected to the office of City Councilman
for the unexpired term of two years, as follows:

the purpose of submitting to the voters of said City the following
proposed amendments to the Charter of the City of Bakersfield:
MEASURE "A"
Shall Section (202)20 of the City Charter
be amended to remove the prohibition against
outside employment and to add provisions allow-
ing employees of the Fire Department to engage
in outside employment up to 312 hours per
calendar year quarter under conditions approved
by the Fire Chief?
MEASURE "B"
Shall Section (239)19 of the City Charter
be amended to remove the prohibition against
outside employment and to add provisions allow-
ing police officers to engage in outside
employment up to 20 hours per week under
conditions approved by the Chief of Police?
d. That pursuant to direction of the City Council, the
County Clerk of the County of Kern has heretofore conducted a can-
vass of the results thereof and has filed with said City Council
a certificate relating thereto which has been examined and is
hereby accepted by this City Council.
