HomeMy WebLinkAbout2009_10_08_09_KCSO Traffic collision BAKERSFIELD POLICE DEPARTMENT PRESS RELEASE William Rector, Chief of Police ________________________________________________________________________ Contact: Detective Mary DeGeare Public Information Officer 661-326-3803 mdegeare@Bakersfieldpd.us For Immediate Release October 8, 2009 On 10/8/09, at 12:07 a.m., Bakersfield Police officers responded to an injury accident at the intersection of Verdugo Lane and Noriega Road involving a Kern County Sheriff’s deputy in a patrol vehicle. Investigation revealed Deputy Brent Nelson 23, was on patrol and was traveling southbound on Verdugo Lane at Noriega Road when he was broadsided by Michael Dobrenen 54, who was westbound on Noriega Road, in a 1999 Dodge Caravan. Dobrenen was ejected from his vehicle and transported to Kern Medical Center with moderate to major head injuries. Deputy Nelson was treated for complaint of pain and released. Both vehicles had major damage. Both the deputy and an independent witness indicated Dobrenen ran the red light. Alcohol was not a factor.
