Information Officer 661-326-3803 mdegeare@Bakersfieldpd.us For Immediate Release November 9, 2009 On 11/09/2009, at 7:58 a.m., Bakersfield Police officers attempted to conduct a traffic
enforcement stop on a green Hyundai sedan for speeding in the 100 block of Columbus Avenue. The driver of the Hyundai failed to yield and led officers on a pursuit north bound on Manor
Street. During the vehicle pursuit, the occupants discarded a loaded firearm which was recovered. The driver of the Hyundai continued northbound and collided with an occupied grey Dodge
pickup near the intersection of Manor Street and Ferguson Avenue. The Hyundai was disabled and the two male occupants ran from pursuing officers towards a residential neighborhood. Both
suspects were located in two separate rear yards in the 1000 block of Glade Street were they individually physically resisted and were taken into custody. They are identified as: The
driver, Alton Riley 37, of Bakersfield was arrested for Felony Evading, Resisting arrest, Felon in possession of a loaded firearm, Parole violation and Hit and Run. The passenger, Brian
Bland 24, of Bakersfield was arrested for Felony Resisting arrest as he attempted to remove the officer’s gun from his holster, Felon in possession of a loaded firearm, and Parole violation.
Both suspects were transported to a local hospital to be treated for injuries and then both will be booked into the Kern County Jail. The driver of the grey Dodge pickup was not injured
in the collision.
