BAKERSFIELD POLICE DEPARTMENT PRESS RELEASE William Rector, Chief of Police ________________________________________________________________________ Contact: Detective Mary DeGeare Public
Information Officer 661-326-3803 mdegeare@Bakersfieldpd.us For Immediate Release December 3, 2009 On 12/3/09, at 2:46 p.m., Bakersfield Police received a report of an auto theft which
had just occurred in the 2600 block of Oswell Street. The victim vehicle was reported to be a grey 2001 Chevrolet Tahoe. At 3:00 p.m., Bakersfield Police Auto Theft Detective Brian Kennemer
spotted the stolen Tahoe traveling north on 99 near Roberts Lane. The Tahoe was being followed by two men in a white Hyundai Santa Fe who were suspected to also be involved in the auto
theft as follow vehicles are commonly utilized in auto theft. Detective Kennemer followed the two vehicles in an unmarked unit until assisting units arrived. Once marked units arrived
the occupants of the Hyundai Santa Fe pulled over and were detained by members of the Tulare County Reduced Auto Theft team. The driver of the stolen Tahoe, Guadalupe Torres 19, failed
to yield and led CHP on a pursuit to the Delano area where he was involved in a non-injury single vehicle collision. Torres exited the Tahoe and evaded officers. He was taken into custody
a short time later at the Kentucky Fried Chicken on Cecil Avenue in Delano where he was seated inside waiting for the men in the Hyundai Santa Fe to pick him up. Torres telephoned the
two but unbeknownst to him, the call was received by law enforcement officials who already had the men in custody. That information was relayed to the officers in Delano who were searching
for Torres and he was arrested. Torres, who is from Delano, was arrested for conspiracy, auto theft, evading, hit and run and possession of stolen property. The two men in the Hyundai
Santa Fe were identified as Lorenzo Juarez 26 and Norberto Ramirez-Florez 24 both from the Delano/Earlimart area. They were arrested for conspiracy, auto theft and possession of burglary
tools. The Bakersfield Police Department Auto T6heft detail had just hosted a joint meeting including the Tulare County Reduced Auto Theft team (T-RATT) and the Kern County Auto Theft
Task Force (KernCAT). All three agencies coordinated efforts during this incident to work together and apprehend the suspects involved.
