block of California Avenue for a report of a suspicious object possibly an explosive device which was in a plastic bag propped up against the rear of the Ebony Counseling Center building
at 1301 California Avenue. The counseling center complex was evacuated as well as two apartments on the south side of the alley for about one hour and adjacent businesses were notified.
The Police Department Bomb Squad responded and determined the object to be an aerial mortar firework similar to the fireworks utilized by professionals at pyrotechnic shows. The Bomb
Squad members collected the firework and took it to a safe location to dispose of it.
