The Honda was located stripped and discarded in Lamont the next day. In the following days, the victim searched Craigslist and located an ad for Honda car parts with a local number. The victim contacted the Auto Theft detail with this information and Detective Uriel Pacheco called the number listed on the ad and determined the seller was located in Lamont and the parts were consistent with the parts taken from the victim’s Honda Civic. Detective Pacheco made arrangements to meet the seller, Rosales, who then led Detective Pacheco, and unbeknownst to Rosales, members of the BPD and CHP Auto theft details, to a private residence in Lamont where the stolen parts were located, including the hatchback which had the license plate still attached. Evidence of two additional locally stolen cars were located and through further investigation both men were connected to additional thefts of Hondas from the Bakersfield College parking lot. Although Detectives do peruse Craigslist for stolen property, it is helpful when the crime victims look as well as they are more familiar with their own property.
