Both parties involved in the collision suffered severe injuries and were hospitalized for an extended period. One party involved in the collision, Fidel Cordero 19 of Bakersfield, was found to be operating his vehicle under the influence of alcoholic beverages when his vehicle crossed into the oncoming traffic lanes and struck, a vehicle head on. On 2/10/10, a felony warrant was issued for Cordero's arrest for driving under the influence resulting in injury. Cordero was located at his home and arrested by officers of the Bakersfield Police Department Traffic Enforcement Detail without incident. Cordero was transported and booked into the Kern County Jail. The public is encouraged to help keep roadways safe by calling 911 if they see a suspected impaired driver.
