Investigators have since arrested Jaime Vidal Aguirre 20, and Anthony Manuel Perez, 20 as a result of the continued investigation which included witness and suspect statements as well as physical and biological evidence connecting them to the offense. Aguirre was found to have a gunshot wound to the shoulder which is believed to have been a result of the shots fired by Officer Beruman. Aguirre and Perez were arrested for attempted murder of a police officer, conspiracy, grand theft auto, possession of a stolen vehicle, assault with a deadly weapon on a police officer, active participation in a criminal street gang and felon in possession of a firearm. Police are still searching for the third suspect: Juan Carlos Oregon, Hispanic Male 26, 5’6”, 160, black hair and brown eyes. Oregon is wanted for attempted murder of a police officer, conspiracy, grand theft auto, possession of a stolen vehicle, assault with a deadly weapon on a police officer, active participation in a criminal street gang and felon in possession of a firearm. Oregon is to be considered Armed and Dangerous and violent towards peace officers. Anyone with information regarding his whereabouts is encouraged to call the Bakersfield Police Department. Juan Carlos Oregon Scroll to page 2 On 2/20/10, at about 9:05 p.m., Bakersfield Police Officers Paul Yoon and Rudy Beruman attempted to stop a 1993 Honda Civic at Monterey Street and Beale Avenue for traffic violations. The driver of the Honda stopped initially but sped away when the officers exited their patrol car to contact them. The suspects led the officers on a pursuit during which one of the three suspects shot at the officers through the rear window of the Honda several times throughout the pursuit. The driver of the vehicle finally stopped in the 1000 block of Clyde Street and the front seat passenger and the shooter ran south on Clyde Street whilst the driver ran north east. Officer Beruman, who was the passenger officer, fired multiple times at the shooter as he pursued him on foot; however, he lost both suspects after they ran west through the housing complex and then south across Potomac Street. A perimeter was immediately set and during a yard to yard search officers detected suspicious activity at a residence in the 1200 block of Potomac Street and ultimately detained three male juveniles thought to be responsible for the offense. At the time, probable cause existed for their arrest. The aforementioned continued investigation has since exonerated the three juveniles and subsequently all charges against them have been dismissed and they have been released from custody. The investigation is continuing. For Immediate Release February 20, 2010 On 2/20/10, at about 9:05 p.m., partnered Officers Paul Yoon and Rudy Beruman attempted a traffic stop on a blue 1993 Honda Civic in the area of Monterey Street and Beale Avenue for traffic violations. The occupants of the Honda failed to pull over and led the officers on a pursuit south on Beale Avenue, east on East California Avenue and into the neighborhood of East 11th and Clyde Streets. During the pursuit, the occupant/s of the Honda fired a weapon at the officers multiple times. The driver of the Honda eventually stopped the vehicle in the 1000 block of Clyde Street and all three suspects exited and ran. Officer Beruman, who was in the passenger seat of the patrol car, gave chase and fired his duty weapon multiple times at the passengers who ran south and then turned west into the housing project on the west side of the street, then south bound across East 10th Street were the officer lost sight of them. Officer Yoon chased the driver in the opposite direction but lost sight of him as well. A perimeter was immediately set by Bakersfield Police, Kern County Sheriff and CHP officers. Within about 90 minutes, during a yard to yard search, officers detected suspicious activity at a residence in the 1200 block of Potomac Street and ultimately located all three suspects in the residence and yard. The suspects, all male juveniles 17 years old, were arrested for charges related to evading arrest and the assault on the officers. Neither the suspects nor the officers were injured. ####
