Information Officer 661-326-3803 mdegeare@Bakersfieldpd.us For Immediate Release March 18, 2010 On 3/18/10, officers responded to a domestic dispute at 1307 Tulare Street. When they
arrived officer’s contacted Jaime Gonzales 27 who was leaving and as officers tried to detain him he pulled away and tried to run but was arrested after a brief struggle. Officers observed
a handgun and a homemade rifle inside the residence and Gonzales informed the officers there was also a “pipe bomb” concealed inside the house. The bomb squad responded and located the
device inside. It was removed from the home, opened remotely and rendered safe just outside the home in an area ideal for that purpose. The device was determined to contain explosive
material. Half a dozen homes around Gonzales residence were evacuated during the investigation for about 4 ½ hours. Niles Street was closed to west bound traffic for about an hour and
½. Gonzales was arrested for possession of a destructive device, felon in possession of a weapon, participation in a criminal street gang, assault on a peace officer, resisting arrest
and child endangerment.
