Information Officer 661-326-3803 mdegeare@Bakersfieldpd.us For Immediate Release March 26, 2010 On 3/25/10 at 9:00 p.m., Bakersfield Police arrested Steve Richard Sanchez 32, for willful
cruelty to a child at Valley Children’s Hospital in Madera. On 3/24/10, at about 11:00 p.m., officers responded to Memorial Hospital for a report of a possible child abuse victim. The
hospital reported a two and ½ month old boy with a skull fracture and other skeletal injuries in various stages of healing. Sanchez reported the child fell off of a bed. The child was
placed into protective custody and transferred to Valley Children’s Hospital for further examination. Detectives assumed the investigation on 3/25/10, and were able to determine that
Sanchez, who is the baby’s father, was responsible for the child’s injuries. Sanchez was booked into the Kern County Jail. The child is recovering.
