The plane involved was a 2009 Luscombe Silvaire fixed wing single engine plane. The pilot, John Dearden 70 and his passenger, Moises Antonio Madrid 20 were flying from Riverside Ca. en route to Columbia, Ca. for a Vintage Aircraft Fly In when they experienced engine trouble and safely landed in the fields. After determining what they thought the problem was, Dearden attempted to take off again in to fly to the Bakersfield Air Park and the plane crashed during takeoff. Dearden suffered moderate injuries and Madrid’s injuries were minor. They were both taken to Kern Medical Center. Dearden is from Orange, Ca. and Madrid resides in Riverside Ca. At the direction of the NTSB, the aircraft was moved to a private local hanger at Meadows Field for storage pending their investigation.
