HomeMy WebLinkAbout2010_06_04_Grand Theft Bob BAKERSFIELD POLICE DEPARTMENT PRESS RELEASE Greg Williamson, Chief of Police ________________________________________________________________________ Contact: Sergeant Mary DeGeare Public Information Officer 661-326-3803 mdegeare@Bakersfieldpd.us FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE June 4, 2010 On 5/22/10, at about 2:00 a.m., unknown suspects removed the “Bob” statue from the outside of the Bob’s Big Boy Restaurant at 3939 Ming Avenue. The proprietor of the restaurant released the surveillance video of the theft to the media which prompted much attention. Since that time, Detective Brian Silvius has been in contact with individuals responsible for the theft. On 6/3/10, at 1:00 p.m., Detective Silvius arrested a 17 year old male juvenile, who was one of multiple suspects involved in the theft, for grand theft and conspiracy. Also arrested at the same time and location was Isac Vera 18, who contacted the proprietor on 5/29/10 and told him he knew where the statue was and that he would provide its location if the proprietor proprietor were to pay him $1000.00. Vera was identified through the surveillance footage captured when he came to the business to extort the proprietor. Vera was arrested for burglary and extortion. During the investigation, Detective Silvius was contacted by the mother of another juvenile suspected to be involved who offered to return the statue but ultimately did not cooperate with law enforcement for the return. On 6/4/10, at about 6:50 a.m., a woman returned the statue to the restaurant . The statue sustained minor damage.
