Starting at 10:39 a.m., the Police Department Communications Center began receiving calls from citizens reporting a police officer (Stringer) driving erratically in a marked black and white patrol vehicle in the area of Coffee Road and Truxtun Avenue. The motorists followed Officer Stringer while he traveled east on Truxtun Avenue and into the rear parking lot of the main police building at 1601 Truxtun Avenue. Officer Stringer was immediately contacted there by police personnel. Further investigation and evaluation revealed Officer Stringer was impaired by what investigators suspect to be prescription medication and he was arrested. Alcohol was not a factor. Investigators also determined Officer Stringer struck a small air conditioning unit near his apartment complex as he was leaving his residence this morning, causing minor damage to the air conditioning unit and the patrol car. Officer Stringer has been placed on administrative leave and he was booked into the Kern County Jail for California Vehicle Codes 23152(a) (Driving under the influence) and 20002(a) (Hit and Run) both misdemeanors.
