ADOPTION OF JANUARY 21, 2010 AGENDA SUMMARY REPORT 12:00:55 PM Adopted as submitted. 3. PUBLIC STATEMENTS 12:01:12 PM None. 4. DEFERRED BUSINESS A. Update regarding Gang and Graffiti Enforcement- Police Chief Williamson 12:02:00 PM Assistant Chief Lyle Martin provided an update on Gang Enforcement. Year to date, the gang unit made 203 felony arrests and seized 47 firearms. There were 9 gang related shootings compared to 13 in 2009 and 1 1 in 2008. Currently, the focus of the Gang Unit will be gun seizure and search warrants of paroled probationers. Captain Joe Bianco reported that the department received its third CalGrip award in the amount of $382,000. This award is unique in that it employs multiple entities working in the intervention and prevention aspect, including, Kern County Network for Children and Kern County Superintendant of Schools. All parties have entered into an agreement to participate in an advisory council and guidance council to deliver services to the most affected parts of the City where gang shootings occur. Committee Chair Irma Carson asked how will the advisory group be selected. Assistant Chief Martin responded that the advisory members will be selected at the next Joint City/County Gang Task Force Committee meeting. B. Report on Kern County Probation Activities- Chief Probation Officer Kuge 12:16:16 PM Susan Lerude of Kern County Probation reported that the department is currently combating budgetary issues related to a 20% step-down. The Repeat Offender Prevention Program will be dismantled on June 30, 2010 due to assessment.com, used to focus on moderate to high offenders, and the department's inability to match the grant funds. Ms. Lerude also reported that the week of April 181" is Victim Awareness Week. For this event, the department is requesting nominations for recognition. S. COMMITTEE COMMENTS 12:20:10 PM Committee Chair Carson requested a community meeting to be held t Martin Luther King Center, PAL or a church. She will be working with community members to determine the location of the meeting and to encourage the public to participate. 7.
