During the first half of 2010 total violent crime increased15.3% and total property crime increased 0.2%. There were 13 homicides from January – June 2010 compared to 12 for the same time period in 2009. Four of the thirteen homicides were gang related. The number of gang related shootings increased by three, from 30 in 2009 to 33 in 2010. The number of sexual assaults (rape/attempted rapes) dropped from 29 in 2009 to 19 in 2010. Robberies overall decreased by 1.5%. This was partly due to a reduction in the number of residential robberies. Aggravated Assaults increased by 28.5%. Property crimes such as burglary, larceny and auto theft saw an increase as a whole. Although Larceny reports decreased by 7.0%, Burglaries increased by 12.5% and Auto Thefts increased by 10.3%. ###
