Near the onset of investigation, the two murders were believed to be connected because of the relationship between the two victims who were last seen together, similarities in the manner of death and similarities in the evidence at both crime scenes. Investigators initially determined West was responsible for Trejo’s murder and West was located and arrested by Bakersfield Police during a vehicle stop at 30th Street and Union Avenue on 9/7/10, at about 6:45 p.m. West was booked into the Kern County Jail for Trejo’s murder.
