Original Release October 22, 2010 On 10/21/10, at 11:39 p.m., the Bakersfield Police Department was contacted by California State University, Bakersfield Police requesting assistance for a large fight on campus near Parking Lot F. A few moments later the officer reported shots heard and a victim of a gunshot in the same area. Bakersfield Police officers arrived on scene within minutes as multiple persons and vehicles were leaving the area. The victim, Bianca Janae Jackson 18, was located in Parking Lot F and transported to Kern Medical Center where she was pronounced deceased. Investigation revealed that there was an organized club event on campus consisting of a Halloween theme which was originally intended for a smaller group of 30-40 however it grew much larger. The event started in the Educational Opportunity Program Office in the Education Building but spilled out into the quad and Parking Lot F. A CSUB Police Officer responded to a report of a disturbance in the quad area near the Education Building and encountered a large group and a physical fight involving at least three people. The officer pepper sprayed the participants in the fight who dispersed into the larger group as it moved into the Parking Lot F area. The officer, who had already called for assistance from both CSUB Police and BPD, then heard multiple gunshots in the area of the parking lot and as he made his way through the group he was directed toward Bianca Jackson who was lying unresponsive in the parking lot, suffering from a gunshot wound. The officer administered aid to her until additional officers and medical aide arrived. No other injuries have been reported. Witnesses indicated there was a Black Cadillac Escalade with tinted windows and large rims occupied by multiple Black males circling the parking lot prior to the shooting and that a Black male suspect ran to the vehicle after the shooting occurred. These subjects and vehicle are persons of interest. The Bakersfield Police Department is the primary investigating agency for this incident. CSUB Police Department and Administration are working in cooperation with BPD investigators. Anyone with information regarding this investigation is encouraged to call Detective Dennis Murphy 326-3861.
