The resident reported there was a Hispanic male lying on the ground at her front door who was bleeding from the chest but she was afraid to open the door. Officers arrived to find 26 year old Cruz Martinez unresponsive suffering from a puncture type wound to the chest. Fire and ambulance moved in and determined Martinez was deceased. Investigation revealed Martinez, who is a documented gang member, was involved in a confrontation with opposing gang members at 909 Meredith Street during which he was stabbed in the chest. Cruz made his way to 1001 Meredith before he collapsed and died. Investigators have identified those involved in the altercation and have obtained no bail arrest warrants for murder and participation in a criminal street gang for the following suspects. Encarnacion Barrientos, aka “Chone”, Hispanic male 37, 5’7” tall, 160 pounds, brown shaved hair and brown eyes. Vincente Adam Perez, aka “Worm”, Hispanic male 24, 5’9” tall, 165 pounds, brown shaved hair and brown eyes. Luis Montenegro, aka “Playboy”, Hispanic male 29, 5’9” tall, 175 pounds, brown shaved hair and brown eyes with numerous tattoos. Adam Velasquez, aka “Mumbles”, Hispanic male 26, 5’11” tall, 175 pounds, brown shaved hair and brown eyes. On 11/17/10, investigators learned that Barrientos was in an apartment in the 1100 block of Eye Street. Patrol officers and subsequently SWAT Team members surrounded the apartment in question intending to conduct a surrender callout when Barrientos and two others forced open a window screen and were preparing to exit the rear of the apartment. Officers made their presence known and the three were ordered out of the apartment. Barrientos and a male and female, unconnected to the murder, voluntarily exited the apartment and were taken into custody. The following schools in the area were placed on lockdown for the duration of the operation: BHS, Saint Francis, William Penn, Roosevelt, Emerson and McKinley.
