City of Bakersfield fell when compared to the previous year. The overall crime rate in 2010 was 510 reported crimes per 10,000 citizens. The overall crime rate for the five previous
years is listed below: 2009 – 530 per 10,000 2008 – 555 per 10,000 2007 – 558 per 10,000 2006 – 562 per 10,000 2005 – 635 per 10,000 In 2010, there were 32 homicides, 12 of which were
gang related compared to 27 homicides in 2009, 16 of which were gang related. Although there was an increase in homicides and slight increases in aggravated assaults, burglary and auto
theft in 2010; there were decreases in reported rapes, robberies and larceny. The Part 1 crime in 2010 as compared to 2005 indicates the following percentage decrease in; Rape -24.4%,
Larceny -15.2%, and Auto Theft -7.6% and the following increase in; Robbery 20.9%, Aggravated Assault 27.1%, and Burglary 13.1%. For Homicide, there was no change. The Bakersfield Police
Department is committed to reducing crime in our community. As part of this effort, we will continue to focus on gang related crime; use crime analysis to more rapidly identify trends
or developing crime trends and focus on those areas to help reduce the number of crimes committed; and we will continue our work to build relationships with the community which is a
vital part of any crime prevention/reduction effort.
