MEETING DATE: February 14, 2011 AGENDA SECTION: New Business
ITEM: T A ,
TO: Bakersfield Redevelopment Agency APPROVED
FROM: Donna L. Kunz, Deputy Executive Director DEPARTMENT HEAD
DATE: February 3, 2011 GENERAL COUNSEL
EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
SUBJECT: Agreement with California Water Service Company for extension of water In line
on 18th Street in the vicinity of Central Park, in the amount of $394,041.
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends approval of the agreement; and authorize payment of the advance deposit
in the amount of $394,041.
BACKGROUND:
Several large development projects are planned for the area around Central Park. These
include the 191h Street Senior Plaza (67 units) and the 19th Street Mixed Use Project (ten housing
units plus approximately 10,000 square feet of commercial space),
However, the water main that serves that area is undersized for the density of these proposed
projects. Without a new and enlarged water main, these 19th Street projects cannot move
forward. If, as hoped, the 19th Street projects spur additional nearby private sector
developments, they also will prove to be difficult to build without adequate water infrastructure.
To accommodate planned and future development in the area, a new water main needs to be
installed.
This agreement with California Water Service Company will provide funding for a new and
enlarged water main along 18th Street. California Water Service Company will perform the work.
