A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE
BAKERSFIELD POLICE DEPARTMENT (BPD) TO
FORM A COMMUNITY OUTREACH PARTNERSHIP
WITH THE CALIFORNIA HIGHWAY PATROL TO
PROVIDE DUI PATROLS ON SEGEMENTS OF
STATE ROUTE (SR) 58 AND SR-178 PER OTS
GRANT #AL10109 .
WHEREAS, the California Highway Patrol (CHP), Bakersfield Area, was awarded
funding, in June 2010, from the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) to target and
apprehend drunk drivers on segments of State Route- (SR-) 58 and SR-178 in Kern
County; and
WHEREAS, the CHP originally reserved $30,000.00 to form a community outreach
partnership with the Bakersfield Police Department to patrol the segments of SR-58 and
SR-178 within the City of Bakersfield; and
WHEREAS, On June 30, 2010 the City Council adopted Resolution 073-10 creating
a community outreach partnership between the Bakersfield Police Department and the
CHP, to provide DUI patrols on segments of State Routes 58 and 178 per OTS grant
#AL10109; and
WHEREAS, the CHP has been authorized by OTS to increase the grant award
amount to the Bakersfield Police Department from $30,000 to $53,000; and
WHEREAS, the CHP cannot authorize the BPD to work said additional grant-funded
activities until it obtains a resolution of support from the Bakersfield City Council to
participate in a joint contractual agreement with the CHP,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Bakersfield
authorizes City Manager, or his/her designee, to form a community outreach partnership
through a joint contractual agreement enabling the Bakersfield Police Department to
participate in the grant funded California Highway Patrol "Arrive Alive" Sober Driving
Coalition II, Bakersfield Eastside DUI Corridor Safety Project, Grant #AL10109.
NOW, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Police Department is hereby
authorized and empowered to execute in the name of the City of Bakersfield, all necessary,
contracts, payment requests, agreements and amendments thereto for the purpose of
securing grant funds, implementing and carrying out the purposes specified in the grant,
and drawing down grant funds as necessary.
