Update regardina Gang and Graffiti Enforcement Sergeant Terry informed the Committee about i�he status of a graffiti inc Creek Park. Committee member Johnson thanked the Police Depar diligence, as there have been numerous complaints. According to Police Chief Williamson, the TAGE� software has not yet bE and the smart phone application that will enable citizens to report graf development stage. Assistant to the City Manager Teglia said that a status items will be provided at the next Committee meeting. Sergeant Terry reported that, as of the end of February, there had been on shooting, compared to five in 2010 for the same time frame. Twenty five g� compared to nine during the same time period in 2010. He also provided c regarding a recent homicide that is suspected to be gang related. Committee member Sullivan asked what may be contributing to the I shootings. City Attorney Gennaro recommended that all meztings be scheciuled and Regular Meetings to ensure as much notice to the public as possible. Committee member Johnson suggested scheduling the June and Septem� the evening and at community locations. The Committee unanimously agreed to schedule the June 1 b, 2011 meeting the Martin Luther King, Jr. Center, and the Septem'�ber 15, 2011 meeting at 5 Friendship House, if it is open at that time. NEW BUSINESS A. Discussion regarding Fundina for, and Preparation of, Pubtic Service Safe Neighborhoods and Community RE Agenc Due to the current economic situafiion, the rece�nt trend for the Police D appear on news shows to discuss topics that involve pubiic safety rather and produce public service announcements. There are also regularly sc interviews. Committee Chair Salas asked if production of public service annou incorporated into the franchise agreements the City has with the cable cor� Sergeant DeGeare said that in the past the Department did partner with produce three to four minute videos on any topic related to public safety. 24-ho�r digital cable program that airs a variety c�f informational videos. ADJOURNMENT Adjourned at 12:52 p.m. � B A K E I� S F I E L D PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTIV�ENT MEMORANDUM TO: Safe Neighborhood Committee FROM: Stuart Patteson, Public Works Operations Manager DATE: April 11, 2011 SUBJECT: Request for Graffiti In�c�rmation on Weak�nd Work At the March 30 City Council meeting, Councilmember Johnson requested a presentation to the Safe Neighborhood Committee regarding Anti-graffiti operations. Public Works Staff intends to make a short presentation on the history the 7-day a w2ek graffiti program and schedule. With this presentation we intend to explain: • Why and when we went to a 7-day a week schedule. • Discuss the scope of graffiti abatement operations on the weekends. • How the 7-day a week schedule is a cost saving method of scheduling. • Other benefits of the 7-day a week schedule.
