SUMMER/LABOR DAY AVOID DUI CAMPAIGN – SATURDAY UPDATE 2
DUI Arrests Up
The Summer/Labor Day National Anti-DUI crackdown has resulted in a significant number of DUI
arrests from local routine traffic enforcement and special Avoid the 18 DUI deployments throughout Kern
County.
From 6:00 PM Friday, August 19, 2011, through 6:00 AM Monday, August 22, 2011, officers
representing Kern County law enforcement agencies arrested 51 individuals for driving under the
influence of alcohol or drugs. Many of these arrests as a result of special enforcement events conducted
by the Kern AVOID the 18 coalition and CHP, which included sobriety checkpoints and DUI saturation
patrols over this first weekend of the Summer/Labor Day mobilization period.
Additional Checkpoint operations and DUI Saturation patrols are planned for this upcoming weekend in
Bakersfield, Shafter and Ridgecrest. The enforcement events will be conducted by agencies participating
in the Kern AVOID the 18 coalition, Bakersfield Police Department and the CHP.
Police, Sheriff and the CHP encourage all motorists to help make your community safer: Report Drunk
Drivers – Call 911. Funding for this program is provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic
Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
DUI arrest data collection will continue through Labor Day midnight Monday, September 5, 2011.
