Between July 23, 2011 and August 27, 2011 the Bakersfield Police Department and
California Highway Patrol partnered together in a combined effort to target to the
problem of litter and debris on the State Route 99 corridor and connecting roadways. As
a result of the combined effort 161 motorists were issued citations for various vehicle
code charges; 82 of those citations were issued for improperly covering and or securing
rubbish so as to prevent in from spilling onto the roadway, and six citations were issued
for spilling rubbish onto the roadway. All motorists are reminded that no vehicle shall be
driven or moved on any highway unless the vehicle is so constructed, covered, or
loaded as to prevent any of its contents or load from dropping, sifting, leaking, blowing,
spilling, or otherwise escaping from the vehicle.
