HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES NO 081-11RESOLUTION NO. 0 8 1- t A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZINGTHE BAKERSFIELD POLICE DEPARTMENT TO APPLY FOR GRANT FUNDING FROM THE U.S. DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE EDWARD BYRNE MEMORIAL JUSTICE ASSISTANCE GRANTPROGRAM. WHEREAS, the United States Congress has authorized the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant per statute: "Omnibus Crime Control and Safe Streets Act of 1968, as amended, Title I; 42 U.S.C. 3751 (a); Crime Control Act of 1990, Public Law 101-647"; and WHEREAS, the Bureau of Justice Assistance of the U.S. Department of Justice administers the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program to provide funds to units of local government to underwrite projects to reduce crime and improve public safety; and WHEREAS, the City of Bakersfield is eligible to receive $185,624.00 from the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice AssistanceGrant Program; and WHEREAS, the Bakersfield Police Departmentwill apply to the Departmentof Justice for the use of grant funds to supplement it's budget to provide services and equipment as outlined in Exhibit "A" attached herein; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Bakersfield authorizes City Manager, or his/her designee, to apply for the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant. APPROVED SEP 14 2011 Exhibit "A" 2011 JAG/BYRNE GRANT REQUESTS Funding is requested to purchase radio broadcast capable, 360 degree pan, zoom, tilt and low light capable surveillance cameras. The price quote includes the software needed for the systems to be operational. The procurement of these items will be accomplished by following the established procedure set forth in the City of Bakersfield Municipal Code. Since the equipment requested will be an expansion of an existing system, which has specific compatibility requirements, a sole source resolution from the Bakersfield City Council will be submitted to complete this project.
