(AEC) is pleased to present this summary letter for the collection of soil samples from beneath nine dispenser locations at the Walker Fuels facility, 4600 Stine Road, Bakersfield, California (Figure 1). On June 23, 2009 an AEC geologist mobilized to the Walker Fuels facility to collect discrete soil samples at 2-feet, and 6-feet beneath the nine former dispenser locations (Figure 2). The dispensers, dispenser pans, concrete surfacing, and piping had been removed from the locations to be sampled; native soil was present at each location. AEC used a hand auger to core to the prescribed sampling depths of 2' and 6' beneath the former dispenser locations. Once the requested sampling depth was achieved, AEC brought the hand auger bucket to surface and compressed a new stainless steel sleeve into the undisturbed soil. The ends of the sleeve were sealed with Teflon-lined plastic end caps which were subsequently taped. The sleeves were labeled, then, placed in an ice chest chilled with chipped ice. The soil samples were also recorded on a chain-of-custody. The eighteen discrete soil samples were analyzed for TPH- , gasoline or TPH-diesel, BTXE, and MTBE by EPA Method 8015/8021B by Associated Laboratories, Orange, California(See attached analytical and tabulated results). 1 The soil sample analyses indicated non-detectable concentrations for BTXE and MTBE; however, some detections of TPH as diesel were recorded. Soil samples collected beneath dispenser location 4-E at 2' and exhibited 245 mg/kg and 273 mg/kg of TPH-diesel, respectively. In -'" addition, soil samm q1—A,,V t6 indicated 0.42 mg/kg and 8.4 mg/kg, respectively. Finally,, soil samples od"Ille0a A from location 5-2-and-6-exhibited991'6 mg/k"g nd 25 mg/kg, respectively;? t Although there are areas-where"the"diesel"appeasto-be°in ecr asing with depth(sample 4-E AEC does not recommend a complete subsurface investigation; rather, it is recommended that the area proximal to the sample locations be "over-excavated" until clean soil is visibly, and olfactory, identified and the newly created spoils pile mitigated onsite. r • ENVIRONMENTAL CONCEPTS WITH DESIGN IN MIND 220 E.
