BAKERSFIELD POLICE DEPARTMENT
PRESS RELEASE
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
December 15, 2011
On Friday, December 16th, the Kern AVOID the 18 will conduct a DUI Task Force
Operation in the greater Bakersfield area and the Bakersfield Police Department
will conduct a DUI/Driver’s License Checkpoint in the greater Bakersfield area.
On Saturday, December 17th 2011 the Bakersfield Police Department will conduct
a DUI/Driver’s License Checkpoint in the City of Bakersfield.
These operations are an ongoing effort to reduce the number of persons injured
or killed each year in DUI related collisions. A major component of DUI/Driver’s
License Checkpoints is to increase awareness of the dangers of impaired driving
and to encourage sober, licensed, designated drivers.
In 2010, 38 people lost their lives on Kern County roadways as a result of DUI
related collisions. Join us in reducing that number to where it should be- zero.
Drive sober or get pulled over.
Funding for this program was provided by a grant from the California Office of
Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The
public is encouraged to help keep roadways safe by calling 911 if they see a
suspected impaired driver.
