BAKERSFIELD POLICE DEPARTMENT
PRESS RELEASE
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
December 18, 2011
On Sunday, December 18, 2011 the Kern AVOID the 18 partners conducted a Warrant Task
Force Operation in the greater Bakersfield area. Members of the Bakersfield Police Department
teamed with members from the Kern County Probation Department in partnership to arrest
outstanding DUI warrant suspects.
Teams attempted service on 44 outstanding warrants resulting in 11 arrests.
This Kern AVOID the 18 operation was part of a series of enforcement and education efforts
throughout the holiday season that the Bakersfield Police Department will conduct in an effort to
reduce the number of persons injured or killed each year in DUI related collisions. A major
component of this enforcement event is to increase awareness of the dangers of impaired
driving and to encourage sober, designated, licensed drivers.
Funding for this program was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety
(OTS), through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The public is
encouraged to help keep roadways safe by calling 911 if they see a suspected impaired driver.
