For Immediate Release Tuesday, January 17, 2012
On 1/13/12, the Bakersfield Police Department Critical Incident Review Board met and reviewed the facts and
circumstances surrounding the traffic collision involving Officer Peter Beagley on 8/26/11, wherein bicyclist, Samuel
Dohn Boyd 51, collided with the officers’ car and subsequently died from the injuries he sustained from the collision.
The accident investigation determined the cause of the accident to be Boyd riding a bicycle while intoxicated and
committing an unsafe turning movement across two lanes of traffic, directly in to the officer’s path.
After reviewing the findings of the administrative investigation, the Critical Incident Review Board concluded that
Officer Beagley’s as well as the other responding officers’ actions were within department policy and within state and
federal guidelines.
The Review Board consisted of Assistant Chief Lyle Martin, Captain Robert Bivens, Captain Hajir Nuriddin and
Captain Michael Payne. Police Chief Greg Williamson has reviewed the investigation and concurred with the Review
Board’s findings.
