BAKERSFIELD POLICE DEPARTMENT
1601 Truxtun Avenue
Bakersfield, CA
(661) 326-3815
PRESS RELEASE
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
January 18, 2012
On Wednesday, January 18th, 2012 between 0600-1200 hours the
Bakersfield Police Department Traffic Enforcement Detail conducted a
speed enforcement patrol in an effort to slow motorists on the Allen Rd.
construction zone for the Westside Parkway.
The roadway has a temporary “S” curve and has construction speed limit
signs of 30 mph as well as L.E.D. message boards indicating the lowered
speed limit. A number of collisions and near collisions have prompted
citizen’s calls to media and the City requesting enforcement and the results
of today’s effort confirm the need for ongoing enforcement in the area.
As a result of this enforcement effort, Traffic Officers issued a total of 90
citations (1 for an unlicensed driver, 1 for a diver not utilizing a hands free
device while driving, 2 for stop sign violations, 86 for unsafe speed).
The Police Department would like to remind motorists to be aware that in
most construction zones the normal roadway speed limit is reduced and
subject to enforcement. The reduced speed limit is for the Public’s safety
as well for the safety of the construction workers in the area.
Funding for this program was provided by a grant from the California Office
of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety
Administration. The public is encouraged to help keep roadways safe by
calling 911 if they see a suspected impaired driver.
