On 1/11/12, at 7:33 p.m. Bakersfield Police received a report of a stabbing in the
800 block of Union Avenue.
Upon arrival, officers located George Young (35), of Bakersfield, suffering from
multiple stab wounds to his torso and arms, lying in the parking lot of 830 Union
Avenue. Young was transported to Kern Medical Center for treatment and is in
stable condition at this time.
At the time of the call witnesses provided a suspect description. Several minutes
later an officer located and detained a subject matching the description in the 100
block of East 8th Street. A knife believed to be used in the incident was
recovered at that location.
Investigation thus far has revealed that a fight occurred between the victim and
the suspect inside the business at 804 Union Avenue. During the fight the
suspect stabbed the victim multiple times and then fled. The victim fled to a
neighboring business where he was found by police.
The suspect was transported to the Bakersfield Police Department where he was
interviewed and arrested for the assault. He is identified as:
Pablo Novelo (33), of Bakersfield.
He has been booked into the Kern County Jail on charges of attempted murder
and gang participation.
The investigation is continuing.
