KERN AVOID THE 18
PRESS RELEASE
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
December 31, 2011
On Saturday, December 31st, 2011 the Bakersfield Police
Department Traffic Enforcement Detail conducted a DUI
Saturation Patrol between the hours of 7:00 PM and 3:00 AM in
the greater Bakersfield area with an additional 10 Traffic Officers.
63 traffic enforcement stops resulted in a total of 25 drivers being
asked to perform standardized field sobriety tests; 6 of these
persons were found to be under the driving under the influence of
alcoholic beverages including 1 offender who had 2 prior DUI
convictions. 1 minor was involved in a minor collision and was
found to have a BAC of .01 and was cited and released to his
parents.
This DUI Saturation Patrol was part of a series of enforcement
and education efforts throughout the holiday season that Kern
AVOID the 18 will conduct in an effort to reduce the number of
persons injured or killed each year in DUI related collisions. A
major component of this enforcement event is to increase
awareness of the dangers of impaired driving and to encourage
sober, designated, licensed drivers.
Funding for this program was provided by a grant from the
California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS), through the National
Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The public is
encouraged to help keep roadways safe by calling 911 if they see
a suspected impaired driver.
