Vernon Avenue, adjacent to the campus. The officer was familiar with the thefts the previous day and this activity was consistent. Jones walked away from the vehicle and continued south on Mt. Vernon Avenue to the area of Christmas Tree Lane and Noel Place where two Bakersfield College Public Safety officers detained him. Bakersfield Police responded and Frankie Lee Jones was found to be in possession of a firearm which was determined to have been taken in a prior local vehicle burglary. Jones was arrested for ex-felon in possession of a firearm, possession of stolen property, possession of burglary tools and outstanding arrest warrants for robbery, possession of drugs for sale and failure to appear in court. The Honda Jones was tampering with was also determined to be stolen. Jones was booked into the Kern County Jail. On 2/8/12, at about 12:05 p.m., a Bakersfield College student reported two suspicious subjects in a grey Honda Accord who were prowling in the parking lot and who were specifically looking at other Hondas. A Bakersfield Police officer arrived as the subjects were leaving. When the officer attempted to affect a traffic stop, the driver led officers on a short pursuit to the 2900 block of Cardinal Avenue where the vehicle went off the roadway and both the driver and passenger ran. Officers apprehended both suspects a short distance away. The Honda was determined to stolen from a neighborhood east of the college and the two were also responsible for a second stolen Honda from the same neighborhood. When the two were spotted by the college student, they had already committed vehicle burglaries on the campus and were in the process of looking for additional vehicles to burglarize. The two suspects, both males, ages 16 and 17, were arrested for 2 counts of auto theft, possession of stolen property, possession of burglary tools, conspiracy and resisting arrest. Neither Jones nor the two juveniles have been linked to the auto thefts on campus on 2/6/12, as of yet. You can now send an anonymous text message to the Bakersfield Police Department.
