RESOLUTION
RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE ESTABLISHMENT OF AN
OFF ROAD VEHICLE PARK PROXIMATE TO METROPOLITAN
BAKERSFIELD.
WHEREAS, On November 14, 2001, the City of Bakersfield,approved a long
range plan to preserve a portion of northeast Bakersfield, now known as the Northeast
Bakersfield Open Space area; and
WHEREAS, as a part of this plan, it is intended that the area would be left as
open space for habitat conservation and passive recreational uses; and
WHEREAS, much of the existing informal recreational activity is dedicated off
road vehicle use (ORV); and
WHEREAS, implementation of this project will eventually displace this active type
of recreational use; and
WHEREAS, the City Council wishes to balance their support to include all of the
types of recreation now existing in the northeast Bakersfield Open Space Area; and
WHEREAS, in order to provide an area for off road vehicle usage, it is necessary
to acquire several square miles of property to establish a permanent "ORV park"; and
WHEREAS, the "ORV park" should be located proximate to Metropolitan
Bakersfield and have paved public access; and
WHEREAS, the "ORV park" should not be located on prime agricultural land, an
established oil field, adjacent to residential development or in the path of future urbanization;
and
WHEREAS, the City of Bakersfield and County of Kern receive funds for off-
highway vehicle use.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED AND FOUND BY THE COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF BAKERSFIELD, as follows:
1. That the above recitals and findings incorporated herein are true and
correct.
2. The City Council of the City of Bakersfield will provide any assistance and
support possible in order to establish such "ORV park."

I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing Resolution was passed and adopted by
the Council of the City of Bakersfield at a regular meeting thereof held on
