On Friday, February 10th, 2012 the Bakersfield Police Department Traffic Enforcement
Detail conducted a mobile DUI / Driver License Checkpoint in the 200 block of Union
Ave. and in the 2600 block of Calloway Dr. between the hours of 7:00 PM and 2:00 AM
(Union 1900-2230, Calloway 2230-0200).
A total of 851 vehicles passed through the locations with 728 of those being screened

• 1 driver was arrested for possession of methamphetamine (Union)
Of the 20 unlicensed drivers that officers contacted, 10 met the criteria of CVC 2814.2.
Officers were able to contact 4 registered owners of the held vehicles and subsequently
released them to the registered owner/licensed driver prior to the conclusion of the
checkpoint.
This DUI/Driver License Checkpoint was part of a series of enforcement and education
efforts throughout the upcoming year that the Bakersfield Police Department will
conduct in an effort to reduce the number of persons injured or killed each year in DUI
related collisions. A major component of this enforcement event is to increase
awareness of the dangers of impaired driving and to encourage sober, designated
drivers.
Funding for this program was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic
Safety (OTS), through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
The public is encouraged to help keep roadways safe by calling 911 if they see a
suspected impaired driver.
