Child Drowning Investigation News Release
On Monday 02/20/12 at 3:05 PM, Bakersfield Police Officers responded to a residence
located in the 2300 block of Sherwood Avenue, regarding a report of a child drowning.
Officers arrived on scene with Hall Ambulance and City Fire Department personnel.
Officers learned that a 2 year old child attending a family gathering with his parents had
wondered into the backyard of the home unattended and fallen into the backyard
swimming pool. The child was discovered a few minutes later unconscious face down
in the water. The victim was transported to Mercy Hospital where he was stabilized and
airlifted to the Madera Valley Children’s Hospital for further treatment.
