On Thursday, February 23rd, 2012 from 0600-1200 hours the Bakersfield Police
Department Traffic Enforcement Detail deployed 6 additional officers focusing on speed
enforcement in the metro Bakersfield area with a specific focus on School Zone and
Construction Zone safety. Officers issued a total of 93 citations including, 58 citations in
area school zones and 23 citations in construction zones.
The enforcement operation was part of a series of enforcement and education efforts
throughout the upcoming year that the Bakersfield Police Department will conduct in an
effort to reduce the number of persons injured or killed each year in speed related
collisions.
Funding for this program was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic
Safety (OTS), through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
The public is encouraged to help keep roadways safe by calling 911 if they see a
suspected impaired driver.
