Overgrown trees on Union Avenue
Council Referral No. 307 (Ward 1)
Councilmember Salas requested staff address the issue of overgrown tr
and possible loitering on Union Avenue just north of Panama Lane.
The City Arborists inspected the trees located on the eastside of Union Avenue
of Panama lane. During the inspection, staff identified a possible loitering site u
canopy of one of trees. Staff then contacted Code Enforcement and the Polic
Department for further direction.
On Wednesday, March 14, 2012, staff from Recreation and Parks met with the I
Department and Code Enforcement to inspect the site and complete the nec
trimming. The southernmost tree was determined to be unsafe, and will be rer
within the next two to three weeks. Staff will continue to monitor these trees in
and ensure they are trimmed as needed.
The Police Department found two individuals living under one of the trees. The
explained the work that needed to be done and asked them to leave. The inc
gathered all their belongings and vacated the area.
There was a significant amount of trash found in the area from the loitering; an
assistance of the Solid Waste Division, the entire site was cleaned.
