DEVON JONSON SPOKE REGARDING HIS INTEREST IN GANG INTERVENTION AND THIS ITEM WAS
HEARD FOURTH.
ERNEST MORSE SPOKE REGARDING THE GOVERNMENT'S ROLE IN PROVIDIN(� SAFE FOR THE
PUBLIC.
BISHOP SAMUEL V. ROLAND SPOKE REGARDING BUILDING THE BRIDGE BETWEEN THE COMMUNITY
AND LAW ENFORCEMENT TO COMBAT GANG VIO�.ENCE.
ARTHUR GRAY ANNOUNCED THE INTERLINK PROGRAM WHICH EXPOSES YOUTN TO THE REALITY
OF GANG LIFE.
2. Committee Member Announcements or Reports
KAREN GOH REPORTED THAT GARDEN PATHWAYS IS PARTNERING WITH RECREATION AND PARKS
ON AN EVENT.
PASTOR JORDAN ANNOUNCED THAT STOP THE VIOLENCE WILL BE HOLDING THEIR ANNUAL FUND
RAISER ON MAY 19, 2010.
CO-CHAIR IRMA CARSON ANNOUNCED THE YOUTH LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE WILL BE HELD AT
CSUB ON MAY 14, 2010. THE CONFERENCE WILL ADDRESS GANG VIOLENCE AND TEEN
PREGNANCY PREVENTION.

SUPPORT FROM THE COMMITTEE.
SUPERVISOR MICHAEL RUBIO THANKED MAYOR HALL FOR HIS ATTENDANCE AND SUPPORT.
3. Probation Department Update

MATTHEW KUNDINGER AND J.J. ZAHRY DELIVERED A POWERPOINT PRESENTATION REGARDING
THE GANG INTERVENTION SUPPRESSION TEAM (GIST) AND THEIR TRADITIONAL ROLE IN THE
SUPPRESSION OF GANG ACTIVITY.
4. Take-Away Tattoos / Local Tattoo Removal Opportunities
(Sherry Bullock, Executive Director- Probation Auxiliary County of Kern)
SHERRY BULLOCK DELIVERED A POWERPOINT PRESENTATION DESCRIBING THE TAKE-AWAY
TATf00 (TAT) PROGRAM.
5. Gang-Related Priorities of Incoming Bakersfield Police Department Leadership
(Chief Greg Williamson - Bakersfield Police Department)
BAKERSFIELD'S CHIEF OF POLICE GREG WILLIAMSON DISCUSSED THE C:HALLENGES THE
BAKERSFIELD POLICE DEPARTMENT (BPD) FACES WITH IMPLEMENTING BUDGET C�EDUCTIONS DUE
TO THE DOWNTURN IN THE ECONOMY, WHICH INCLUDED: DELETED POSITI(�NS; REINSTATED
POSITIONS WITH AMERICAN RECOVERY AND REINVESTMENT ACT (ARRA) FUNDING; AND,
STAFFING IN THE GANG UNIT THAT WAS TRANSFERRED TO THE DIRECTED POLICIN�� UNIT.
CHIEF WILLIAMSON ALSO DISCUSSED THE DIRECTED POLICING UNIT'S TARGETIPIG OF ELEVATED
LEVELS OF CRIME IN SPECIFIC AREAS. CHIEF WILLIAMSON ALSO STATED THE BPID IS LOOKING AT
INSTALLING CAMERAS IN CERTAIN AREAS TO DETER CRIME.
LT. JOE MULLINS DISCUSSED THE BPD'S CALGRIP GRANT WHICH WAS ACKN011VLEDGED AS ONE
OF THE BEST APPLICATIONS SUBMITTED THROUGHOUT THE STATE. POLICE OFFICER BRIAN
HOLCOMBE DELIVERED A POWERPOINT PRESENTATION REGARDING THE GANG UNIT. LT. MULLINS
INDICATED THE NEXT STEP IS TO FORM A PARTNERSHIP WORKING GROUP TH�T WILL MEET ON
WEDNESDAY, JUNE 2, 2010.
6. Kern County Sheriff's Department Update
(Sergeant Dustin Downey - Kern County Sheriff's Department)
SERGEANT DUSTIN DOWNEY DELIVERED A POWERPOINT PRESENTATION.
7. Q&A / Discussion
SUPERVISOR RUBIO COMMENTED THAT HE IS CONCERNED WITH THE SPIKE IN GANG-RELATED
ACTIVITY IN 2009 AND HOW THERE IS MORE ACTIVITY AS COMPARED TO THE LEVEL IN 2005.
SUPERVISOR RUBIO IS INTERESTED IN A REPORT ON HOW THE CITY AND COUMTY SHOULD BEST
DISTRIBUTE ITS DISCRETIONARY FUNDS TO COMBAT GANG-RELATED ACTIVITY.
